Cpl. Alfred William Joseph Holloway

British Army Royal Army Medical Corps

Alfred Holloway joined in 1943/44 in Middlesex and had basic training in Harrogate. He was short sighted and so joined the RAMC, attached to a Scots regiment but not sure which.

He landed in Normandy approximately 10 days after D-Day. He may have been at the Battle for Caen and the Rhine crossing, moving north through Belgium. He told a story of rounding up patients from a mental hospital after an accidental American bombing. He also talked about crossing Holland and seeing V2 vapour trails. He may have been at Belsen, but he did not talk about this. He talked of a vodka-driven bender when they met up with Polish troops. He moved up through Denmark, visiting Copenhagen. After the war, he went to Cairo, to Syria, and then on to India, up to Himalayan foothills. He had pictures of a python that had been shot in camp. Then he was demobbed.

Not sure of unit he was attached to and would like to know more, any help appreciated if this sounds familiar.
