James Patrick Donovan

Whilst going through some of the family's old photographs I came across two photos of my father James Donovan when he was stationed at H.M.S. Royal Arthur.
The first small photo is labeled Class 37 dated 1st July 1941. There are 41 seamen in the photo and they have all signed the back of the photo except one and that was my father. He is positioned far left on the top row, I also attach a scan of the reverse side with the signatures and two comments added at a later date by my father.
The larger photograph, I assume, is also at H.M.S. Royal Arthur and contains 63 seamen. My father is situated fifth from the left on the bottom row.
We have very little information of my father's service years as he was reluctant to talk about them. The only thing that he once mentioned was that he was sea sick for three years on the North Atlantic trip to Russia except for one wonderful trip to Cape Town. We believe that he was in the communication section. We have tried and failed to get any further information.
