My father's name is Carl Holmstrom. He was shot down on 3rd of January 1943 and became one of the first Americans taken POW in the European Theatre of Operations when his plane crashed in the Tunisian desert. He was sent to Dulag Luft then Oflag 21-B then then Stalag Luft 3.
While at Stalag Lift 3, he worked as a forger of maps, escape documents, and money as he was a graphic artist who graduated from Pratt Institute with a specialty in calligraphy.
He was known for his artistic talent as a forger and as a portrait artist. When he was liberated April 29,1945,he had been imprisoned for 28 months.
If you want to see his drawings and read more about him, go to kriegielife.com. My brother put up the website and I am sure you will enjoy it.
