PFC. Edwin Harrison Morey
US Army
from:Sioux City, Iowa
Edwin Harrison Morey is my great-grandfather. He was born on 18th of February 1915 in Primghar, O'Brien County, Iowa. He married Willys Iva Hopkins on 1st of April 1940 and had 4 children. Jeanenne, Danny, Jimmie, and Nancy. Edwin fought in WWII. He was a private first class in the army. Edwin enlisted at the age of 29 and only had a high school education. A year after enlisting Edwin was captured by Nazi Germany while serving in France. He was sent to Stalag 4B near Muhlberg, Germany. Edwin was held prisoner at Stalag 4B for at least 148 days (5 months). One of the shorter durations of captivity recorded for Stalag 4B. Edwin was then returned to military control once released. Once the war was over he came home and started his family with his wife. Edwin died of lung cancer on June 19th, 1976. He now rests in Logan Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa next to his wife Willys who later died in 2009 from old age.
