My mother, Jean Whalley, joined the Women's Land Army and was sent to a farm in Pilkington, Somerset. She said she had a great time. The work was hard but she made some good friends. Jean loved dancing but hated the cycle ride back to the farm as she said the bats would be flying all around as they made their way home.
