239109 William Walter Hone British Army from:London My dad, Bill Hone joined the army after a stint as a boy sailor on the merchant fleet.
He came from the East End of London and joined because he wanted to get away from the destruction and give himself a chance of a better future.
His father (granddad) served on an Ironside during the Battle of Jutland.
For the later part of the war he served in Burma, fighting the Japanese forces.
He signed on as a regular soldier at the end of the war and served until 1974.
He married my mum in Gibraltar in 1940 and between them raised 8 kids.
As service kids (brats) we travelled the world and visited several countries that include: Gibraltar, Malta, Cyprus, Singapore, Penang, Hong Kong, Germany and finally England.
