Dvr. John Charles Gorman

British Army Royal Army Service Corps

from:Dublin, Ireland

My father, John Gorman, joined the British Army in Birkenhead aged 17. He saw service in Palestine, North Africa, Burma and Norway, and many other theatres of war. He used to recall a story of when he was in Africa and he received a Red Cross parcel with figs and some other items. The figs had a sticker with the words (from the Sirowa Oasis) which was where he sitting under the fig tree.

There were lots of stories like that. He lived until he was 92 years old had 7 children 21 grandchildren. Sadly missed by us all.
