Sgt. Gordon "Red" MacDonald

Canadian Army Cape Breton Highlanders

from:Cape Breton

My father Gordon MacDonald was the longest serving member of the WWII CBHs. The only comedic story I can recall happened when he was a young recruit in N.S., standing on the dock with the other CBHs and the Sgt. told the men to "fall in" ... which they did, literally ... as only a CBH could do. Other than that and a hatred of spaghetti, he refused to talk about the Italian Campaign. I do know he was missing and presumed dead for ten days because my mother, his then fiancee received a notice.

I want very much to learn more about his war time experiences and hope to contact others who served with him or knew of him. The fact that he had no middle name makes it difficult to distinguish him from others with the same name.
