237514 Gnr. Josiah William "Joe" Dewis Royal Navy from:Nuneaton Dad, Joe Dewis, like many of his era, did not say much about the war. Since his death I have manged to piece together some of his war history. He was a gunner aboard Merchant vessels. Uncovering his record via the web has made me even more proud of him. He was sunk twice on the same day off India aboard the SS Harpasa on 5th April and then again on 6th April 1942 aboard Tansang. When we took him into hospital in the 1980's they asked when he was last in hospital he said April 1942 Calcutta with shrapnel in the backside.
