Pte. George Moffat
British Army Gordon Highlanders
from:Dundee
My Dad, George Moffat, was a prisoner with the WW2 Japs for 3 years, he was a Dundee man who joined-up with the Gordons in Aberdeen before the war. I visited his lonely grave in England, after decades of searching. I also visited the Gordons Museum in 2005. He served in Singapore.
My late Dad came back from the war a broken man with his soul crushed, he was given a De-mob suit and 20 pound and told.... go on old chap your free now.
How he managed to find a women to marry my late mum, and find work and function have three bairns, myself and two sisters is amazing indeed.
He could not carry on and left Dundee to die in a small town near Bury England in 1966ish.
I told my sons about their late Grandad, how he was brave man, a boy soldier who served his country as did so many fine men.
