Pte. Edward Forbes
British Army Black Watch
from:Kirkcaldy
Private Edward Forbes was my dad's half brother and was taken prisoner in 1940. In a letter sent home to his mother it states that he is in Stalag XXB. He remained there until the end of the war.
Although I have never seen the letter, an excerpt from our local newspaper published it, but it was only a few lines to advise the he had met up with a few of the Kirkcaldy lads who were also POWs. The article was published in the Fife Free Press (the local newspaper for Kirkcaldy) in 1990 referring to an article from 50 years ago.
I only ever met him once and I was very young at the time, but remember my mother saying she would often write to him during his days of captivity.
Edward Forbes was born 29/01/1913 in Kirkcaldy and died in 1972 aged 59 years.
