Pte. Cyril Simms
British Army South Wales Borderers
My father Cyril Simms was in the South Wales Borderers, South East Asian Command.
He didn't talk much at all about his time in Rangoon and Burma. Just that they were guarding Japanese prisoners, and they were shot at quite a bit. Also that he sailed over from Southampton on a ship called the Durban Castle.
Once when he had just come off guard duty, the next soldier that took his place was shot and killed, he could always show me the soldier on the group photos of them.
He did also mention that he did his basic training on Brecon Beacons. My father is 90 now though not in very good health.
