234830 Cpl. John Arthur Howorth British Army 4th Queen's Own Royal Hussars from:Todmorden, Lancs John Arthur Howorth, POW number 263889, was captured in 1942. I believe he was captured during the battle for Tobruk. This is my dad. He remained at Stalag IVb until the end of the war. Later he was in Malaya. Latterly he was to become a Staff Sergeant at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. I believe he joined the Army in 1930 and completed his service in 1958 having chosen not to accept a commission. He was in the 4th Hussars which was being amalgamated with other regiments at that time. After 28 years service, it was time for a change of career! He was a very proud soldier and like many others never talked in any detail about his wartime experiences. My dad sadly passed away in April 1978.
