231963 L/Cpl. Albert John Unsted British Army 1st Btn. Grenadier Guards from:Berwick Station, E. Sussex L/Cpl Unsted served in Germany in the last moments of WW2 and was at the relief of the concentration camp at Sandbostel. Additional Information: | L/Cpl Albert John Unsted joined the Grenadier Guards on the 26th June 1944 upon being called up. 29th April 1945 he was posted to 1st (Motor) Battalion Grenadier Guards, after which, as an 18 year old soldier, he was at the liberation of the Sandbostel Concentration Camp, being the driver of a Halftrack (from what he told me. Although he never said a word at any time, it was at a Concentration Camp). August 1946 L/Cpl Unsted transferred to 5 Guards Brigade and in December 5GB HQ, April 1947 transferred to 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards. Promoted to Lance Corporal on 13th March 1948. Finally leaving the Guards on release the 20th October 1948.Ron Unsted
