229383 W/O John William Heard Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve 106 Sqdn. (d.18th July 1943) W/O John William Heard was serving with 106 Squadron at the time of his death on 18th July 1943 in an accident on a gunnery training course. His Wellington III BK235 crashed 1 mile southeast of Appleby when it suffered a wing failure. The crew who died that day were:
