228845 Gnr. John Wilfred Marshall British Army 5th Medium Royal Artillery We have recently discovered letters from my brother John to the family while he was serving in the Second World War in Milan, Lake Como, Riccione and on the Austrian border.
He tells us of an incident while being transported back to Europe of the boat catching fire in the English Channel while being surrounded by about 50 mines. The letters are also full of good times he had with his colleagues and full of fondness towards his family,
