Walter "Mike" Morris

United States Army 143 Rgt. 36th Infantry

from:USA

My father was in the 36th Infantry, 143 Rgt. I have tried getting information on his POW status, but records were destroyed in a fire at the Records Center. Dad was wounded at St Pedro (St Pietro?), Italy on 27th November 1943. He was in hospital for six months, then a POW until 29th April, but I'm not sure which camp.

Sister recalls my dad saying the day the German flag was taken down and the Stars and Stripes raised, was one of the happiest days of his life. Dad played the harmonica while in camp, particularly `Yellow Rose of Texas', `The Old Wooden Cross' and military songs. Does anyone remember him?
