Geoffrey W. Green

Civilian

I was born in 1939 in Ashford, Kent. My father was away in the REME in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. My mother was left collecting National Savings and boarding various service personnel - Norman and Barbara among others. The local storage for the transport to carry personnel to the depots, sites and airfields etc was just down the road. It had a corrugated shelter for a garage. I recall seeing (from the back door) a Spitfire chasing a doodlebug. I remember a solitary brick landing in the garden on another occasion. My shelter was an indoor type. Five doors down the road, the Anderson shelter was dug into the garden.
