226528 L/Cpl. Harry Rose British Army 5 Commando Special Service Battalion from:Morley, Yorkshire My father Harry Rose died in 1957 when I was 10, so I didn't have a chance to quiz him about his war years. He joined up on the 4th of September 1939 and was discharged on the 27th of December 1945 with. He served with 51st Royal Tank Regiment and served in Africa and Italy. For a period he was in 5 Commando/5 Special Service but was returned to his unit on the 1st of January 1941. Why? Was it because he put a bullet through the Duchess of Argyllshire's windscreen.
