Gdsmn. Thomas John Hodges
British Army 2nd Btn. Welsh Guards
from:Aberdare, South Wales
My father, Thomas John Hodges, enlisted in the 2nd Battalion Welsh Guards in 1939. He was captured while fighting the Germans in Arras, France.
He was first transported to Stalag 20b Marienburg then transferred south to Stalag 20a Torun, Poland. My father took part in the infamous "Death March" (or Long March) in the winter of January 1945. Liberated by the Americans he rejoined his regiment in Hamburg. He was demobbed in 1948 and returned to his home town of Aberdare in South Wales.
