225619 Stella Fowles Carter Auxiliary Territorial Service from:Wootten-under-Edge My mother served in the ATS during WW11 and was a driver ferrying officers around in and around Clacton-on-Sea. She met my father a Captain in the Royal Marines (Stanley Norman Hackwood) whilst acting as his driver. I have a photograph of them there as they were married in St Pauls church in Clacton. I also have a photograph of my mother in her section of the ATS in front of a place called Hillcrest Towers, which I assume was in Clacton as well but am not sure.
