225315 Sgt. Jack Douglas Olding Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve 77 Sqdn. (d.1st May 1943) My uncle, Sergeant a/g Jack Douglas Olding, RAF was killed in action on 1st May, 1943, somewhere over Germany. He is buried at Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Kleve, Nordrhein, Westfalen.
I would like to know in which raid he was taking part and in what type of plane he was flying when he died. Any other information would also be much appreciated, such as how old he was at the time of his death. As far as I know, he has no other family left for me to ask. Plane came down in flames in a garden in Essen, Germany the target was the Krupps in the Ruhr. Apparently a beautiful grave was made by Germans which was scene by only one officer. Three Halifaxes on the same Op to Essen came down on the night of 30 April/1May 1943. Plane numbers: JB803 KN-G, JB783 KN-N, JB846 KN-L. Now the whole crew lie side by side in the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery. Crew: F.C. Bertram, K. Ambler, C.W. Warne, C.H. Herbert, J.P.N. Brownlee, W.C. Bostock, J.D. Olding.
