224581 Sgt. Ottiwell Francis Lodge Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve 106 Sqdn. from:Manchester (d.9th July 1942) I have been researching the name Ottiwell Lodge as it relates strongly to an area of the Yorkshire Dales. I came across the probate record of Ottiwell Francis Lodge and it has led me to the recording of his death at the Runnymede Memorial and to this site. He was 21 when he died; his parents, Ottiwell and Mary lived in Levershulme, Manchester.
I'm assuming he was in a bomber crew that didn't come back. I would like to know more. Additional Information: | Ottiwell Francis Lodge or Frank as I was always told he was called was my Grandma's brother and did indeed die as unreturned bomber crew believed to be lost in the North Sea returning from Germany. My Grandma Winifred remained in Manchester until she died 11 years ago. She had a sister Margaret who moved back to Yorkshire and another brother Richard who survived until the late '90's and was a keen genealogist so I have a full maternal family tree which goes back to the 1600's and is largely based around the farming communities of the Yorkshire dales, particularly Hubberholme where I believe several Ottiwell's are buried. My Great Grandfather Ottiwell left his family home Scar house, now a national trust property, to come to Manchester and work as a butchers boy, eventually owning several butchers shops and became a city Councillor responsible for the planning and rebuilding of Manchester after the Second World War.
