Pte. Thomas Leo Faul C de G.

British Army Czech Tank Corps

Thomas Faul was my uncle. I have been haunted by World War 2 memories, as from an early age, my grandmother fed me the story of their forced departure from Prague, their conversion from Judaism to Catholicism, the flight across central Europe to catch one the last ferries to the UK, and their voyage across the ocean on a Liberty ship to Ellis Island. They also went to El Salvador, Honduras, etc. before finally landing in Canada to once and for all escape the Nazi scourge. My father worked on the atomic bomb, while his brother Tom served in the tank corps. He dived on a machine gun nest shouting "Hände Hoch!", and then with shaking limbs got back into this tank and dodged 88s and Tiger tanks to drive it from Sword Beach all the way to Dachau and eventually Munich. It's a frightening story and he would not utter a word of it until I was almost 40. Truth is stranger than fiction. I am currently writing a blog about my World War 2 Memories for my website. Please read the "Why World War 2 Memories" on the website.
