Capt. William George Murray Wilson

British Army 756 Field Coy. Royal Engineers

My father left information about his time in the RE. "Sapper Officer" by Murray Wilson spans the years 1921 to 1947, from his birth in England to his arrival in Canada after the war. Murray gives us a unique view of growing up in England, his school days, family and attending a war shortened programme at Cambridge University. From his call-up in 1941, he chronicles the ups and downs of training in England, Wales, Scotland and Iceland, as well as his part in the Allied army as it made its way across Europe after D-Day. His memoirs cover a range of events from the humorous, such as officers pushing a horse and carriage uphill, to the tragic - members of his platoon being killed.
