Johnny Kolomic served an an Air Bomber and trained with 1666 HCU at Wombleton.

Additional Information:

Johnny Kolomic was born 2nd February 1924 to Alexander and Helen Kolomic of Winnipeg (Manitoba, Canada), the third of four children. A very outgoing and athletic young man, Johnny joined the R.C.A.F. in August of 1942 after graduating from high school, and trained as an observer and bombadier. He was sent overseas in August of 1944, and at the time of his death was training at HCU Wombleton. On 11th July 1944, the crew of his Halifax were on a nightime training flight when the plane crashed near the Rowntrees factory, killing all on board. The reason for the crash has never been confirmed. Johnny was buried in Harrogate (Stonefall) Cemetary, aged only 20.
