Royal Australian Navy HMAS Voyager

Jonathan Rogers was born in Britain in 1920 and received the Distinguished Service Medal serving in the Royal Navy; afterwards he joined the RAN. He died in the collision of the aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne and the destroyer HMAS Voyager. Rogers was posthumously awarded the George Cross “for organising the escape of as many as possible and encouraging ... those few who could not escape ... to meet death alongside himself with dignity and honour” in recognition of his outstanding gallantry and devotion to duty in saving life at sea when HMAS Voyager was sunk after collision with HMAS Melbourne, on the night of 10th Feb 1964. His DSM was awarded for service with the Royal Navy in 1944.
