Sgt. Thomas Porteous

Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve 144 Squadron

(d.6th Jul 1941)

Thomas Porteous who died aged 25 was born in Jarrow in 1915 to William Scott Porteous and Mary Porteous (nee Harvey) of Jarrow.

Thomas is remembered on the Runnymede Memorial and is commemorated on the WW2 Roll of Honour Plaque in the entrance of Jarrow Town Hall.

Additional Information:

I'm trying to find out anything I can about Thomas Porteous and the rest of his crew because my gt. uncle Norman Edwards was part of his crew when they were listed missing in action on 6 July 1941. My uncle was the navigator I believe but apart from that we know very little about his service.

This afternoon my partner and I are going to place a wreath for the whole crew at the soon-to-be-opened Lincolnshire Bomber Memorial. http://internationalbombercommandcentre.com/

I'd love to find out more about Thomas and so anything you feel you could share would be gratefully received. Likewise, if you'd like to know anything about Norman just let me know.

Sarah Edwards
