Able Sea. Jack Hirst

Royal Navy HMS Polyanthus

(d.20th Sep 1943)

Jack Hirst was the son of Anne Hirst and husband of Eleanor Hirst of Jarrow. He is remembered on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial and is commemorated on the WW2 Roll of Honour Plaque in the entrance of Jarrow Town Hall.

Additional Information:

I'm one of Jack Hirst great nieces. I was so sad what happened to uncle Jack and everyone that fought for our country. I'm just wondering if someone could help me. Uncle Jack had not been married to Eleanor for long before we lost uncle Jack. My family and I have always wondered what happened to Eleanor after uncle Jack was never found. We know Eleanor moved back to jarrow but that is all we know. It would be lovely if someone could help my family and I with what happened to Eleanor. Did she ever remarry? Did she ever have her own family?
