Pfc. John Basil Hopkins

United States Army Bty A. 321 Field Artillery Battalion

from:Wisconsin

My dad died in 1964. Yesterday, I received his WD AGO 55-33 (precursor to todays DD214); Hopkins, John B. Pfc, Batry A 321st FA BN Date of Induction: 24 Jun 1942, Portage, Wisconsin Date of Active Service: 6 July 1942, Milwaukee, Wisconsin MOS: Gun Crewman Light Artillery - 884 Qualifications: Combat Infantry Badge, Rifle-Ex, Rifle MKM, Carbine MKM Decorations and Citations: Distinguished Service Badge GO 90-45 Bronze Star Medal GO # 86-44 Bronze Service Arrohead Battles and Campaigns: Sicily, Normandy, Norhtern France, Rheinland, Ardennes, Cental Europe Service outside CONUS: 29 Apr 43 > 11 May 43 - NATO (North Africa Theater of Operations) 08 Jul 43 > 10 Jul 43 - MTO (Mediterranean Theater of Operatons) 23 Oct 43 > 05 Nov 43 - ETO (European Theater of Oprations) 16 Sep 43 > 27 Sep 45 - USA Date of Separation: 4 Oct 1945, Camp McCoy, Wisconsin

Some have said that he may have simply been assigned to this unit as he had collected enough "points" and that the 321st just happened to rotating home at the same he was due to return CONUS.

I would really like to find a source for personnel rosters (landing craft, AB "chalk" numbers, etc.?) ...wish I knew more...
