C, 104th Inf. from:Rahway, NJ After being captured in France, my father, Ray Florian said that they were marched to the prisoner of war camp I believe. At a certain point, they came to an area of trees and their captors indicated with their rifles that the prisoners were to go to the trees. At that point my father was convinced that this was where they were to be killed. Once under the trees, their captors pointed upwards with their rifles; the prisoners realized that these were apple trees and they were being insrtucted to pick some apples for food for themselves!
