Edward DiFore
United States Army
I am trying to find a woman whose name I believe is Ann. She lived in England during WWII and, if living, she may still live in England. She would be in her early 80's now. In 1945, she was seeing an American soldier who was from New York State, an Italian American, Edward Di Fiore. He had promised to send for her but was never able to do so because after returning home he was not discharged for at least another six months. He returned to his hometown only to find out he no longer had a home to go to. He did not have a home for the girl he loved in England. He had to live at the YMCA for nearly one year. Before the year was out, he met someone else, married and a family started not long after.
He always loved the girl in England but he was unable to keep his promise. He worried that there might have been a child, too, but he never knew. She had a sister who went to live in Buffalo, New York right after the war. She married an Army buddy of the first man. My belief is that the man in Buffalo was an Italian-American. One other clue: they frequently went to Scotland while on furlough to visit the girl's Aunt who had a house there.
