Joseph Harold Hickey
United States Army
from:Circleville, Ohio, USA
My father is now 86 years old and he is still traumatized by some of
the things he went through. It was a long time before he even talked about it at all. When they were giving out the money for ex-POW's, it took a long time for them to confirm he was a prisoner of war. I was hoping that he would get his money before he passed, because he is not in good health. But he finally did.
He says he was captured in Sicily and held in Stalag 2B. That is about all I can tell you. He did go back into the Army after he recovered from anomia and frostbite. He stayed and retired for his 20 years. It is funny he spent most of his time in Germany. He was stationed in Schweinfurt, where he ws an MP, the Provost Marshall.
He met and married my mother there. And I had the little typical German grandmother. I was born in Wurzburg. The Commander of the base actually had to drive my mother to the hospital because my dad was a long ways a way.
He thought alot of my father and mother.
