Robert Robson DFC.
Royal Air Force
from:Northumberland
I have been researching my family history for quite some time now and
have been unable to connect "Uncle Bob", (Robbie Robson) to the
family, although he is supposed to be my Grandfather Allan Harrison's
cousin. However, I do know the following about him:
He flew in short Stirlings throughout the war and was a rear gunner (a
tail end Charlie). His call sign was "Q" for "Queenie". He flew supplies
and arms to the French resistance. He was awarded the DFC but refused
the award. Many of his friends were killed, and this had serious
implications on Uncle Bob's mental health in later life. He had family
based in Luton, Bedfordshire but would probably have come from
Northumberland. I have attached the only photo we have of him, Bob is
2nd from the left on the top row. If somebody recognises him, or can
give me some more information that would be great
