207726 Pte. Leonard Green DCMBritish Army Leonard Green escaped from Stalag XXA and made it back to England via Sweden with Angus Paton. Their story is the subject of the book Escape Route Green.
In June of this year, my wife (Leonard's daughter)and I went to Torun to re-trace the route he took and to visit the 3 prison camps he was kept in, in Torun, Lobsenica and Graudiatz. I can only describe our experience as one of the most incredible weeks of our lives and would recommend Poland to anyone who would be interested in seeing were family members may have been held. The interest and assistance we received was remarkable. Please visit Torun Daily Photo for photos Stalag XXA as it is today.
Additional Information: | I am currently putting together a Memorial page to Naafi staff and have discovered Leonard's story. Would you have a picture of him in uniform?
Trying to find out Naafi staff is proving to be difficult as the shrinking Naafi no longer have any records. When he returned to UK did he continue to work for Naafi?
