Tpr. William Henry Barber MM.

British Army 44th Recce Regiment Reconnaissance Corps

from:Brockley

My Dad served in North Africa and Italy his name was William Henry Barber. He was in the 44th Recce Regiment. He won the Military Medal on the 5th October 1944 when, on a patrol, he shot and killed two Germans and also helped bring back several prisoners despite being badly wounded in the leg himself.

If anyone remembers my Dad, Bill, please write in. Dad passed away in September 2000 and is sadly missed by all of his family.

Additional Information:

Your Dads name was mentioned to me by my Dad when he told me his story about three years ago. I understand he was a friend and fought alongside him in North Africa and Italy. He mentioned him to me as well as a Sergeant Tubby Goodall?. My Dad was Harry Crane and lived in Preston,Lancashire. He passed away in 2013 and like with you has also been sadly missed by his family. My Dad was a very calm and gentle man with an air of eccentricity who commanded great respect and was greatly loved by his family and friends.
