Ianto William Glyn "Freddy" Fox
British Army Royal Artillery
from:Morden, Surrey
My father Ianto Fox, was a gardener before the war but learnt to be a motor mechanic in the Army. The only story I have is of him in a tent with two companions, he was in the middle and asleep while they sat up reading. There was an attack and both his companions were killed. He had thick dark brown curly hair but sometime during the war acid was spilt on the top of his head and that part was bald from that time on.
He had a Welsh name which most people couldn't pronounce so he was always called "Freddy". I think he might have been a messenger as my mother said he used to ride a motor bike and was a target for the enemy with the dust storm the bike threw up when he rode it. Apart from him not liking apricots or corn beef that is all I know of his army career. He never liked to talk about it.
Any memories of him would be most welcome to me and to my 12 grandchildren as he died in an accident when I was only 16.
