Sgt. Ralph Wilcox
British Army 1st Btn Welsh Guards
from:Pontypridd, Wales
My father died when I was 19 and he rarely discussed his wartime experiences with us. He enlisted with the Welsh Guards in Pontypridd in 1934.
He was in the Army Reserve in 1938 and when war was declared served in Gibraltar. He was evacuated from Dunkirk. He also served in France and North West Europe. On June 6th D Day he landed on the Normandy coast. On June 29th at 10.30 pm he was wounded in his head and back at Caen.He was reported missing believed killed in action but was located and flown back to base hospital in southern England. On July 14th he was sent to Stobehill Hospital, Glasgow where he recovered. He was discharged from H.M. Forces on Sept.25th. I found this typed on a piece of paper inside his soldier's service and pay book marked Army Book 64.
