205717 F/Sgt. Edward Ossington Royal Canadian Air Force Rear Gunner 428 Sqd. from:Granby, Quebec, Canada Edward was my brother who is dead now. He was in the Army from 1941 to 1943. He got hurt returned home and then joined the C.A.F. as a tail gunner. Was shot down in 1944 spent some time with a French farmer then to a prison camp until the end of War. I was only eight at that time but remember that for five months we did not know what had happened. Only two of the crew lived.If you have any information I would be pleased to have it.

The crew took off in Lancaster KB770 NA-D, at 16.38 on the 28th of January 1945 on a mission to Stuttgart.
The pilot S/L Kay was on his first sortie as a Flight Commander. The aircraft is believed to be lost on a raid concentrated around the Hirth aero-engine plant in Zuffenhausen. Shot down by an Enemy Night fighter

Thier crewmates all perished and are buried in Durnbach War Cemetery.

There is a grey area between the crash and the official (re)burial of the remains in Durnbach, Germany. I own copies of family documents regarding the missing status of the crew.
