205127 Sgt. Virly Elmo Azbill US Army 45th Infantry Regiment from:Cherokee, Oklahoma, USA My grandfather, Virly Azbill was was captured on Sept. 11th, 1943 at the Salerno Beachhead in the village of Persano. He eventually arrived at Stalag 3B on October 20th, 1943 and was there until January 31st, 1945. I am working on his memoirs, which do not mention many specific names, but he distincly recalled Russell Hehr of Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Hehr had organised and was assistant choir director of Trinity Methodist Cathedral in Cleveland before being called to service.
