204576 Signalman Robert " " Roy from:Northampton (d. 30th Aug 1945) Unfortunately I know almost nothing about my Uncle Robert Roy, other than he died as a POW in Changi Singapore and is buried at Kranji Cemetery in Singapore. My son is currently in the far east and plans to visit the grave next week. If anybody has any info, we would be very interested. Additional Information: | Robert Roy was captured in Java and remained there until he was shipped to Pakan Baroe in Sumatra aboard the Chuka Maru as part of Java party 21 to work on the Sumatran railway, a project which cost many POWs their lives. He arrived in Sumatra 22.5.44. He died at Pakan Baroe no. 3 camp at Kataboloe on 30.8. 44 at 15.45 hours. His cause of death was heart failure due to general weakness caused by amoebic and bacillary dysentery. He was buried 40 metres east of the railway, 500 metres north of the river Kampar, Kataboeloe. The grave was marked with a large wooden cross. Sadly Robert’s grave was not found post war so he could only be remembered by name on the Singapore memorial at Kranji. He did not die in Singapore and was never a POW there.Glenda Godfrey
