Sgt. Leonard Charles Bray

RAF VR 57 Squadron

from:Hersham, Surrey

(d.12th Aug 1942)

My uncle, Charles Bray, died before I was born. His name is on the memorial at Runnymede. I should like to know what type of aircraft he flew, where he was stationed and the circumstances in which he died. I know that his plane was shot down into the sea off the coast of France, but that is all.

Additional Information:

Leonard Charles Bray was my great uncle, my Grandmother being his Sister Freda Bray. He was stationed at RAF Feltwell and was returning from a mission to Mainz near Frankfurt in a Wellington mkIII. He was a radio operator and gunner I believe. The plane went down off the coast of Holland or Germany near the Frisian islands. All were lost, the rear gunner being the only body recovered; he is buried in Holland. I will see if I can find the site where the incident is officially recorded in aviation authority records.
