Sgt. John Macfie

Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve 61 Sqd.

John Macfie was killed in action on the 25th of June 1944, aged 21. Buried in the Abbeville Communal Cemetery, Somme, France, he was the son of Andrew B. Macfie and Frances Macfie, of Glasgow

Additional Information:

He was rear gunner in LM518 QR.C which was on a sortie to bomb a V1 Flying Bomb site at Prouville. Shot down by a night fighter and crashed at Bienfay (Somme). The remainder of the crew, except for the Flight Engineer, Sgt K Chapman, who became a PoW, perished and are buried in Abbeville Communal Cemetery
