    If you have any unwanted photographs, documents or items from the First or Second World War, please do not destroy them. The Wartime Memories Project will give them a good home and ensure that they are used for educational purposes.     William George Bladen 18th Regiment Reconnaissance Corps

    William Bladen served with the 18th Regiment Reconnaissance Corps British Army. I have his unissued dogtags, made in preparation for deployment to the Far East and would love to get them home to his family. I am happy to cover all costs. If you are a family member or can put me in touch with them please get in touch.

    Gnr. John Robert Benson 3rd Heavy Anti Aircraft Regiment Royal Artillery (d.7th Aug 1943)

    On 15th of February 1942, Casualty List No. 783 reported John Benson as missing in action. On 22nd of Oct 1942 he was named on Casualty List No. 961, reported as a prisoner of war in POW Camp Malai 1. 11th September 1945 John was listed on Casualty List No. 1855, his death on 7th of August 1943 was reported.




    Pte. Alfred James Day Royal Army Ordnance Corps

    James Day would have been my uncle, had he lived longer. He died in 1954. He was listed as missing in action on 15th of February 1942. I discovered he was a POW in Thailand as of 1st of November 1944. He was in the Malai 1 POW camp from 15th of February 1942 and was liberated on 5th of September 1945. I'm still researching his past.

    Pte. Gordon Stuart Fleming No. 2 Sect. Armoured Cars HQ 1st Perak Btn.

    Gordon Fleming was a mining engineer with Anglo Oriental Tin Company in Bidor, Malaya when he enlisted. He was captured by the Japanese with his brother-in-law William Watkins and they were both transferred to Changi. He was relocated to Malai Camps, then No.4 camp in Thailand. Gordon worked on the Thai Burma Railroad. He survived the war and returned to Australia.

    Mining engineer and dredge assistant with Tongkah Harbour Tin Limited, Bidor, Malaya. Captured by Japanese with his brother-in-law Gordon Fleming and both transferred to Changi. Relocated to Malai Camps, worked on the Thai Burma Railroad. Survived the war and returned to Australia.

    Gnr. Arthur W. Dyer Royal Artillery

    Arthur Dyer was captured on 15th of February 1942 at the fall of Singapore to the Japanese. His capture was not reported until 12th of October 1942 on Casualty List No.952. Previously he had been shown on CL.792 as Missing, on 15th of Feb 1942. He was liberated on 30th of October 1945, confirmed on CL 1914 (19/11/1945), 'previously reported on Casualty List No. 952 as Prisoner of War now Not Prisoner of War. His Duty Location is given as Singapore. He received the War Medal 1939-1945 and 1939-45 Star, He was held in a POW Camp, Malai 1.

    Pte. William Johnson 1st Btn. Manchester Regiment (d.30th Jan 1944)

    Looking through the family records, I found out that my great uncle William Johnson was a serving soldier in the 1st Btn. Manchester Regiment and was captured by the Japanese on the 15th of February at the fall of Singapore. He was held as a prisoner of war for 2 years at Malai 1 POW camp where he died of dysentry on 30th of January 1944 aged 29.

    I remember growing up and on each Remembrance Sunday as I watched Queen Elizabeth lay the wreath on the Cenotaph looking at a picture of my great uncle and remembering his sacrifice.

    Thomas John Argust died on the Suez Maru. He was a POW captured on the 9th of March 1942 and held in Thailand and Malai 1.
