263304 Donald Macleod Royal Naval Reserve from:Stornoway, Scotland (d.20th October 1945) From the Stornoway Gazette, 9 November 1945: We deeply regret to record the death on the 26th October at the early age of 46 years, of Donald Macleod of 17 Portnaguran and Sandwick. He had a period of military service during the latter part of the 1914-18 war in France, where he was gassed and wounded. He served again in this war, and at the time of his death was due to be demobbed, after having been at sea in home and foreign waters for several years. Latterly he had been transferred to shore duties with the army of occupation in Germany, where he underwent an operation. After a period of convalescence at home, his health gave rise to further anxiety, and he was sent to the Naval hospital at Invergordon, where he died. The news came as a shock to the neighbourhood, who feel deeply for the infant daughter and son as for the young widow, who some time ago lost a child in unfortunate circumstances. Donald bore his illness with philosophic calm and patience and was a man highly respected by all who knew him. To the bereaved widow and children, now residing at Bayble, and brother and sisters in Portnaguran, we tender the heartfelt sympathy of the community in their sore loss.
