Mjr. Leslie William Richard Deacon
British Army 7th Armoured Division Royal Army Service Corps
from:Reading
Leslie Deacon served in North Africa as part of 7th Armoured Division Royal Army Service Corps. He was sent to Greece and escaped wearing only his pyjamas. He told me, his grandson, that while in Egypt he had long lines of Italian troops attempting to surrender to him. He advised then to continue down the road to the next officer as they were too busy to deal with them.
His most vivid memory, which brought tears to his eyes, was the sight of tanks burning during the Battle for Sidi Rezegh in which he lost lots of friends in the division. He served in Italy and France.
