Pte. Victor John Mynott

British Army Royal Army Ordnance Corps

from:Melwood, Station Road, Puckeridge, nr Ware Herts.

My father, Victor Mynott, did his initial training at No 1 Training Battalion in Manchester commencing 15th of January 1940. He was posted to 14th Tec Training Centre 14th of Feb 1940. Posted to 5th Army on 14th of March 1940 (believed to be in Northern Ireland). On 5th of January 1941 he was posted to RCMCI and embarked for Port Said two days later, arriving in Egypt on 10th of March 1941. It is believed he stopped of in Cape Town for 2 weeks en route. In June he was captured in Crete and spent 1941 to 1943 in Stalag 7a at Munich digging up copper from tramways. Then from 1943 to 1945 he was in Stalag 8b (Lamsdorf) and took part on the long march, believed in the Southern route. He was released by an American unit on the 28th of April 1945 and repatriated to the UK on 14th of May 1945. It is believed he spent some time at East Harling Norfolk before being discharged of 14th of July 1946 from No 6 Chilwell M.T.Group R.O.A.C. at Slough.
