(d.22nd Aug 1944)

F/O Donald Sinclair Jamieson No. 426 Squadron RCAF

Donald Jamieson was born 2nd June 1924 in Winnipeg, Canada, a cousin of my late mother. He enlisted in the RCAF on 24th of July 1942 and trained as an air gunner. He was awarded his flying badge 14th of May 1943 and was posted to 426 Squadron in UK. He received a commission on 19th of Dec 1942.

On the night of 28th/29th of June 1944, he was flying in a Halifax to Metz but due to having been hit the crew all had to bail out, which they safely did. However, Don and Flying Officer Hugh Waldie Birnie were caught and handed over to the Gestapo at Pont L'Eveque. Both were taken by SS guards and are believed to have been killed 21st/22nd of Aug 1944. Donald was only 20 years old. They have no known grave but are commemorated at Runnymede Memorial. The two SS men faced a War Crimes trial but one of them escaped. The other was imprisoned for 8 years.
