Pte. Harry Palmer

British Army Royal Army Service Corps

from:Smethwick

On a mission to re-supply 79th Armoured Brigade preparing for advance of general forces the next day, Harry Palmer failed to find them and as it was dark fell asleep on an airfield during the Normandy battle. When he awoke in the morning, he realised that the airfield was still occupied by Germans. Fortunately, they evacuated that morning, allowing him to climb out from under his blanket and truck and beat a hasty retreat!
