Royal Navy SS Starling from:Bramhall (d.13th Oct 1940) Able Seaman (Gunner) Peter Hope was posthumously awarded the Lloyd's War Medal for Bravery at Sea for his actions on 12th of October 1940 aboard the SS Starling, a defence-equipped merchant ship (armed merchantman). The same source indicates that he also received the King's Commendation for Brave Conduct. His name is administratively associated with HMS President III, which was a ‘stone frigate’ that provided accountancy services and maintained pay records for Royal Navy, Royal Fleet Reserve, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, and Royal Naval Reserve personnel serving on defence-equipped merchant ships.
